Asya Fateyeva
Saxophone
Born in Crimea in 1990, Asya Fateyeva continues to pursue her goal of establishing the classical saxophone within the concert repertoire. As a tenor saxophonist, she is a regular member of the well-known Alliage Quintet. In addition to earning Third Prize at the 2014 Adolphe Sax International Competition in Dinant, Belgium, Asya Fateyeva has won various First Prize awards at competitions in Russia, France and Germany. In 2006 she emerged as a laureate in her category at national Jugend musiziert competition. In 2012 she won First Prize at the German Music Competition (Deutscher Musikwettbewerb) in Bonn. In 2015 she was awarded the €10,000 Berenberg Culture Prize. Asya Fateyeva has already made frequent appearances as a guest saxophone soloist with many orchestras, among them the Vienna Symphony at Vienna’s Musikverein. She has appeared as a guest artist with orchestras in Moscow, Kiev, Istanbul and Milan. Her performance at festivals in Colmar, Fermo, Cologne, Moscow and St. Petersburg as well as at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the “Spannungen” Music Festival in Heimbach were very positively received. Her education combines the Russian tradition of a soulful style of performance with the classic French saxophone school. She first began taking piano lessons at the age of six and when she was ten, her teacher in Simferopol, Lilia Russanowa, introduced her to the French tradition of saxophone playing. She subsequently studied at the Gnessin School in Moscow under Margarita Shaposhnikova and at the Cologne Musikhochschule under Daniel Gauthier as well as studying abroad in France under Claude Delangle in Paris and Jean-Denis Michat in Lyon. She is currently pursuing further studies in chamber music performance at the Musikhochschule in Hamburg under Niklas Schmidt. Since 2014 Asya Fateyeva has been teaching students majoring in classical saxophone at the Musikhochschule in Münster.
