Born in Zwickau in 1985, oboist Thomas Hecker studied with Klaus Becker at the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover. He was a prize-winner at the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen and won the 2008 German Music Competition Prize. He was also selected to perform in the nationwide series of Young Artists’ Concerts (Bundesauswahl Konzerte Junger Künstler) and awarded Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben’s Carl-Heinz Illies Scholarship. Thomas Hecker regularly appears at renowned festivals, among them the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Festival Mitte Europa and the Chamber Music Connects the World in Kronberg. His artistry is documented in recordings with German broadcasters SWR, NDR and Deutschlandradio. He has performed as a soloist with the Beethoven Orchester Bonn and the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz. He has also performed with the Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha and the Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen. In 2013 Thomas Hecker made his debut in the Berliner Philharmonie with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin conducted by Christian Zacharias, and also appeared in concert with the DSO under Tugan Sokhiev. He has also performed as a member of the Gürzenich Orchester Köln. In 2009 he was temporarily engaged as solo oboist with the Leizpig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and he has also performed as a member of the Bamberg Symphony, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannnover and the Staatskapelle Dresden. In 2009 he was named solo oboist of the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
