Cellist Juris Teichmanis was born in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1966 and received his first lessons on the cello from his father. Juris Teichmanis studied under Christoph Henkel in Freiburg, Martin Ostertag in Karlsruhe and Anner Bylsma in Amsterdam, as well as attending master classes given, among others, by Heinrich Schiff. Juris Teichmanis specializes in period performance practice for Baroque cello as well as the interpretation of New Music. Otfried Büsing dedicated his piece Diferencias for cello solo to Teichmanis, who gave its premiere performance in 2011. He collaborates regularly with internationally recognized musicians such as Frieder Bernius, Michael Schneider, Petra Müllejans, Gottfried von der Goltz, Christine Rall and the Raschér Saxophone Quartet. Concert tours have taken him throughout Europe, to the US, South America, Southeast Asia, Japan and the Middle East. Juris Teichmanis is Artistic Director of the BACH PUR Festival in Freiburg.
