Baritone Tomas Kildišius devotes a major part of his creative life to the lied genre. As a storyteller, he pays particular attention to the articulation and clarity of the text. The Neuss-Grevenbroicher Zeitung characterized the singer’s pronunciation as “flawless.”

The Lithuanian-born artist was already surrounded by music during his school years. In his hometown of Molėtai, he sang in six different choirs and ensembles (despite its size – around 7000 inhabitants – the small town has many musical groups for children and adults). He appeared on stage as a soloist for the first time at the age of thirteen.

After winning a national youth singing competition, he decided to study classical singing and began his training in 2014, first at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater and later at the Robert Schumann Conservatory Düsseldorf under Konrad Jarnot. During his training, he also studied in the lied class of Hans Eijsackers, where he was able to further develop his talent and skills.

Tomas Kildišius appears as both a lied and an opera and concert singer. He has performed on the stages of the Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach (title role in Andreas N. Tarkmannʼs Der Räuber Hotzenplotz) and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (as a Flemish Envoy in Giuseppe Verdiʼs Don Carlos and as the Cappadocian in Richard Strauss’ Salome).

His oratorio repertoire includes works such as Johannes Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem, Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, and George Frideric Handel’s Messiah. He was entrusted with the world premieres, in the lied repertoire, of Robert Holl’s Mein Gebet at the International Lied Festival Zeist and Dmitrii Shchukin’s Königskind, as well as of Wolfgang Abendroth’s musical theater works Paradise NOW! and O ihr Menschen.

Together with pianist Gustas Raudonius he is the third prize-winner of the International Student LiedDuo Competition 2022 in Groningen, where he also received the special prize in 2020 with Ani Ter-Martirosyan. In 2023 the Kildišius/Ter-Martirosyan Duo won the Young Artists’ Platform competition of the International Lied Festival Zeist.
