Anne Schwanewilms
Soprano
Anne Schwanewilms has made a name for herself as one of the foremost interpreters of Richard Strauss’ works. Her repertoire includes operatic roles such as Arabella, Ariadne, Chrysothemis, Feldmarschallin and Empress as well as Elsa, Elisabeth, Marie and the Grand Duchess of Gerolstein. She is a regular guest at major international opera houses in Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Zurich and Tokyo among others. At the Salzburg Festival, her performances as Carlotta in Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten and as the Empress in Die Frau ohne Schatten were received with great acclaim.
Anne Schwanewilms regularly works with conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim and Vladimir Jurowski as well as orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France.
She is passionate about lieder and is one of the most renowned lied singers worldwide today, giving recitals regularly at London‘s Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie. Accompanied by pianists such as Malcolm Martineau and Charles Spencer, she has set artistic standards with her interpretations of lieder by Schumann, Schubert, Wolf, Wagner, Liszt, Mahler, Strauss, Schoenberg and Korngold.
The soprano has received many prizes and awards, including an ECHO Klassik in 2017 and a GRAMMY in 2018 for the CD recording of Wozzeck. In 2019, the DVD Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg from the Bayreuth Festival starring Anne Schwanewilms as Eva was awarded the OPUS Klassik.
