Frank Zabel

Frank Zabel (*1968 in Meinerzhagen) studied at the Cologne University of Music with Chen Pi-hsien (piano), Friedrich Jaecker and Roland Löbner (music theory) and was appointed professor for music theory at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Dusseldorf in 2001. His compositions are regularly performed at international festivals and renowned concert halls such as the Gasteig in Munich, the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, the Frauenkirche in Dresden, the National Theater of Sao Carlos in Lisbon and the Konzerthaus in Vienna.

He has received commissions from various radio broadcasters, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Beethovenfest in Bonn, among others. Frank Zabel is an award winner of numerous international composition competitions and regularly performs as a pianist and chamber musician. The Violin Sonata No. 1 in G minor, BWV 1001 and the Violin Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 as well as the alto aria “Erbarme dich” from the St. Matthew Passion are among his piano transcriptions of Bach’s works.
