Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin
The Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin was founded in the spirit of the reunification of Germany in 1989 and has been an integral part of Berlin’s music scene ever since. Today, clearly rejuvenated, it reflects the atmosphere of Berlin: musicians from the formerly divided city as well as international colleagues constitute an orchestra, which time and again delights with its curiosity and commitment.
It captivates the audience with its lively and authentic camaraderie and continually excites with an excellent quality of sound. The orchestra, currently under the artistic direction of the first concertmaster Gabriel Adorján, resides in its permanent location, the Berlin Philharmonic’s Chamber Music Hall. Its main focus is upon the classical repertoire often juxtaposed with contemporary or lesser-known works. Additionally, the DKO makes new and unusual concert venues its own. In the series “Neue Meister”, the orchestra devotes itself to world premieres and to new classical music.
With Markus Poschner as a regular guest conductor, the DKO Berlin was able to gain an exceptional artistic personality, one who has been closely connected to the orchestra for years. Among its international guest soloists are Daniel Hope, Anna Prohaska, Avi Avital, Maximilian Hornung, Baiba & Lauma Skride, Nigel Kennedy and Ben Becker. The ensemble has played throughout Germany and abroad, most recently in South Korea, Italy and Serbia as well as at numerous festivals.
