Anna Niebuhr was born in Meiningen and studied cello with Friedemann Erben at the University of Music and Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig. She has belonged to the Rundfunk- Sinfonieorchester Leipzig (today the MDR Symphony Orchestra) since 1983 and has been the substitute Principal Cello since 1990. A member of the Hartmann String Quartet, the Leipzig Chamber Symphony and the Reuter Trio, among others, she maintains a busy schedule performing as a chamber musician in Germany and abroad. As the daughter of conductor Rolf Reuter, she has often performed the cello concertos by her grandfather Fritz Reuter and plays regularly in the MDR’s Würfelkonzerten as well as in the MDR’s Musiksommer. Anna Niebuhr teaches at the University of Music and Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig.
