Andreas Hartmann

Andreas Hartmann, born in Halle in 1960, began studying at the University of Music “Franz Liszt” in Weimar with Jost Witter in 1977. Upon completing his degree in 1982, he went on to do a two-year post-graduate program. Andreas Hartmann successfully took part in national and international competitions, including the 1980 International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig and the 1982 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. He has performed in Europe, Asia, the USA and Canada. In 1984 he was engaged as first chair violinist of the Große Rundfunkorchester Leipzig (Large Leipzig Radio Orchestra). He took over this same position in the present MDR Symphony Orchestra in 1990. In MDR concerts, he played Brahms’ Double Concerto together with Rodin Moldovan at the Leipzig Gewandhaus and in Weimar in January 2006 as well as Mozart Sonatas and Mendelssohn’s Symphony Nr. 1 in the chamber music edition at the Altes Rathaus in April 2006, among others. Numerous television productions, radio broadcasts and CD recordings complete his musical field of activities. He has taught violin at the Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” in Weimar since 2008 and became a professor there in 2013. Andreas Hartmann plays on a Guarneri from 1744.
