Georgiy Lomakov

Ukrainian-born cellist Georgiy Lomakov has won an impressive number of awards and prizes at music competitions. He was only six when he began taking lessons from Valentina Balon in his hometown of Odessa, and two years later earned first prize at the Uzbekistan International Competition.

He has won other major international competitions, including the Antonio Janigro Competition in Croatia and the Johannes Brahms competition in Austria. At thirteen, he moved to Germany to study with Reiner Faupel, who would become his most influential teacher and mentor. Later, Georgiy Lomakov completed his studies with Siegmund von Hausegger at the Musihochschule in Nuremberg, Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory in Boston, and Wenn-Sinn Yang at the Munich Musikhochschule.

While still at university, he made his American debut as a soloist and has given numerous recitals throughout Europe, many of which have been broadcast. His discography has been met with wide critical acclaim. In 2019 he performed as a soloist in the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre.
