Solo concerts and recitals have taken the cellist Peter Bruns to the most prestigious musical centers on all continents, including venues in Berlin, New York, London, Tokyo, Seoul, Paris, Dresden and Leipzig. He has also appeared at major music festivals in Kuhmo, Bergen, Berlin and Dresden as well as at the Budapest Spring and Lockenhaus festivals. Peter Bruns has appeared as a soloist with many major orchestras and has toured with the Staatskapelle Dresden as well as with the RAI, MDR and WDR symphony orchestras. He has worked with conductors such as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Herbert Blomstedt, Colin Davis and Thierry Fischer. Peter Bruns is a cello professor at the Leipzig Academy of Music. Since 2014, he has also been the artistic director of the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra in Leipzig. His numerous CDs have been awarded many prizes, such as the "Cannes Classical Award" for the best CD of the year. For his recording of the six cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach, the American magazine Early Music Review praised it as “one of the best recordings of the decade." Peter Bruns plays on a 1730 Carlo Tononi cello from Venice that formerly belonged to Pablo Casals.
