Quintessenz

Quintessenz was founded in 1996, inspired by the wish to perform chamber music with an unusual combination of five musicians, all playing different flute instruments. From its playful beginnings, a highly-professional ensemble developed over the following 20 years, featuring a unique repertoire tailor-made for each member: in addition to the ensemble’s own arrangements, a large number of modern works have been composed over the years expressly for Quintessenz. The members of the ensemble are not only recognized and in demand as soloists, but also – and particularly – as top-level specialists in all instruments belonging to the flute family. Through their CD recordings, performances at international festivals, and master classes in ensemble playing, Quintessenz is now famous worldwide. We are proud that many young musicians have since followed our example, also performing together as a quintet.
