As a soloist, chamber musician, and lied accompanist, Martin von der Heydt cultivates a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the latest works of the 21 st century. He is co-founder of the E-MEX Ensemble and has performed more than 600 premieres of solo and chamber music works worldwide. The composers with whom he has collaborated include many internationally renowned names.
Martin von der Heydt has won several prizes at prestigious international competitions. His concert activities extend to most European countries as well as Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Turkey, and North and South America. He has given numerous workshops and master classes at German and international universities. Martin von der Heydt has been leading a piano major class at the University of the Arts Bremen since the end of 2011.
He completed his piano studies summa cum laude at the Folkwang University of the Arts with Till Engel. In addition, he received significant inspiration in master classes with Vitaly Margulis, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Jean-Philippe Collard, and Leonard Stein as well as in song accompaniment with Axel Bauni and Norman Shetler.
The diversity of his pianistic interests is documented by radio recordings on Deutschlandfunk, WDR, SWR, and DeutschlandRadio Berlin and by CD productions with a variety of classical music labels.
