Hermit Songs
GENUIN couldn’t have done better than start its new series – showcasing winners of the ARD International Music Competition – with splendid soprano Emalie Savoy. Her warm voice literally envelops the audience, carrying them off to the distant lands of Ravel’s Shéhérazade and Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, and back to the bygone era evoked by Samuel Barber in his Hermit Songs. This music is all about solitude, about focusing on what is essential in life. And the American soprano conveys this superbly in every measure. We almost wish we were in Barber’s hermitage, undisturbed by the outside world, so we could savor this CD over and over again…

„If this is Emalie Savoy’s debut recording–which I suppose it is–it is indeed a spectacular debut in every respect.“
