Sebastian Tewinkel studied violin and conducting in Hannover and Stuttgart, completing further studies in music performance there under Thomas Ungar with distinction. He also attended master classes given by Gianluigi Gelmetti and Sir Colin Davis. He was a scholarship recipient of the Herbert von Karajan Foundation and was included in the Dirigentenforum of the Deutscher Musikrat for supporting conductors. In 2000 he won First Prize at the International Conducting Competition of the Fundação Oriente in Lisbon and in 2001 won the Bad Homburg Conducting Prize. Since the 2002/2003 concert season Sebastian Tewinkel has been Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim. As a guest conductor he has been featured on CDs and in radio productions with, among others, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Münchner Philharmoniker, the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Hamamatsu Philharmonic Orchestra in Japan, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Stuttgart, the Orquestra Metropolitana Lissabon, the St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchetsra, the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, and the Festival Strings Lucerne. Since 2009 he has also been Artistic Director of the Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden and since 2010 has also been professor of orchestral conducting at the Musikhochschule Trossingen.
