Andreas Gilger studied with Christian Rieger, Wolfgang Kostujak, and Roland Maria Stangier at Folkwang University of the Arts and with Michael Borgstede at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Further valuable input came from Andreas Staier and Christine Schornsheim.

Andreas Gilger has been active as a harpsichordist and organist on CD recordings and stages all over the world. Chamber music partners, conductors and ensembles he has performed with include Alfredo Bernardini, Reinhard Goebel, Trevor Pinnock, Sir Roger Norrington, Evgeny Sviridov, Das Neue Orchester (Christoph Spering), and Die Kölner Akademie (Michael Alexander Willens). Some of the festivals at which he has performed are the Tage Alter Musik in Herne, the Barocktage Melk, the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, the Felicja Blumental Festival in Tel Aviv, the Shanghai International Arts Festival, and the Festival Musika Música in Bilbao.

In 2013 he founded the Cicerone Ensemble with Thomas Wormitt (Traverso) and Adrian Cygan (Baroque Cello). Their first CD, titled Grand Tour, was released by GENUIN classics in 2019. From 2016–2021 Andreas Gilger held a post as lecturer for harpsichord and figured bass, and as répétiteur at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
