At the urging of cellist Arvo Lang, in early 2001 five graduates and undergraduates of the Karlsruhe Music Conservatory met to devote themselves to Franz Schubert’s only string quintet. Concert engagements followed already after their first performances of the work, encouraging the five musicians to continue working together as an ensemble and to find more repertoire for the rare string quintet scoring with two cellos. For five years now they have performed in concerts and met with wide acclaim. During this time, Franz Schubert’s late string quintet has remained the focal point of their work together as an ensemble.
