Born in Warburg, Westphalia in 1963, Johannes Ernst studied classical saxophone at Berlin’s University of the Arts (UdK) and was the holder of a DAAD scholarship at the Bordeaux Conservatoire under Jean-Marie Londeix. This was followed by engagements as a soloist with renowned orchestras, as a chamber music partner in numerous ensembles and as a lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. Johannes Ernst played numerous world premieres, including the saxophone concertos of Friedrich Cerha, Toshio Hosokawa, Philippe Hurel, Steffen Schleiermacher and others. He has also been principal alto saxophonist of the Max Raabeʼs Palast Orchester, which regularly performs at all the leading music venues.
