"Connecting rather than separating!" With this founding motto,
I TEMPI abolishes the distinction between Baroque and modern orchestras and has been performing dynamic concert programs full of contrasts under the direction of Gevorg Gharabekyan since 2013. What makes the ensemble special is that each work is interpreted with historically authentic instruments. In programs featuring works from different epochs, the musicians change instruments within a single concert. In this way, listeners can experience the different sound worlds in direct contrast.
Since 2013 the chamber orchestra has held its own concert series in Basel and Zurich. I TEMPI is also dedicated to performing forgotten masterpieces as well as music by contemporary composers. The ensemble has commissioned works from Hans-Martin Linde (Capricci per orchestra d’archi, WP 2013 and Arioso for flauto traverso and strings, WP 2017), Philippe Racine (Nous n’irons plus ... pour hautbois et orchestre à cordes, WP 2018), David Haladjian (Mountains and Trees, WP 2022), and Helena Winkelman (Trumpet Concerto ICAROS, WP 2023).
Soloists with I TEMPI have included Boris Brovtsyn, Giuliano Carmignola, Viviane Chassot, Christophe Coin, Christoph Croisé, Thomas Demenga, Ilya Gringolts, Rudolf Lutz, Adelina Oprean, Stephan Schmidt, Bruno Schneider, and Oliver Schnyder. In cooperation with Radio SRF and the label GENUIN classics, I TEMPI has already recorded two CD albums: Summer Night featuring works by the Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck and Authentic with music by Antoine de Lhoyer, Antonín Dvořák, and Edward Elgar.
