Christian Benda

After his debut with the Prague Symphony, invitations follow with the Suisse Romande Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi, Prague, Stuttgart, Lausanne, Cannes, Auvergne Chamber Orchestras, Slovenia-, Lviv, Münster, Janacek Philharmonics, Belgrade Symphony, Polish National Opera, Bucharest Radio Symphony, Shanghai Broadcast Symphony, Ulster Orchestra, a.o. Benda is chief conductor and artistic director of the Prague Sinfonia created by President Vaclav Havel with which he just recorded Schubert‘s complete overtures. He conducts vocalists such as Renee Fleming, Cheryl Studer, Simon Estes, and Barbara Hendricks with whom he toured repeatedly America, Europe and Asia. Among the artists having performed with him, we find V. Spivakov, P. Tortelier, N. Brainin, P. Amoyal, F.-R. Duchâble, M. Viotti, M. Bamert, M. Horvat, B. Giuranna, Y.-P. Tortelier, Th. Fischer, L. Berman, M. Béroff, T. Fellner, M. Rudy, C. Ortiz, B. Pergamenschikow. He also performs with actors, theatre and opera directors from Wiener Schauspielhaus, Volkstheater and Comédie Française, as A. Jonasson, H. Schell, P. Uray, B. Quadlbauer, E. Pluhar, J.-L. Bideau and F. Rochaix. Benda appears at international festivals such as Schwetzingen, Echternach, La Roque d’Anthéron, Cité de la musique Paris, Prague Spring, George Enescu Bucharest, Wratislavia Cantans, Campos do Jordao, Hong Kong Arts, Klangbogen Wien, Wiener Festwochen, Styriarte, Steirischer Herbst, Menuhin Festival, Shanghai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Rio de Janeiro, a.o.
Benda’s discography includes all piano and orchestra works by Frank Martin with P. Badura-Skoda (Bestenliste der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik), Haydn’s violin concertos with J.-J. Kantorow, J.S.Bach‘s Musical Offering, C.P.E. Bach‘s Hamburg Symphonies, symphonic works by Malipiero and Casella, as well as recordings by his forefathers: Jiri Antonin Benda‘s symphonies and melodramas, and violin concertos by Frantisek and Jan Jiri Benda with J. Suk. Among Benda‘s video, radio and TV recordings there are productions for the BBC, Radio Luxembourg, Radio France, ORF, Hessischer Rundfunk, SWR, TVSR, RSI, SF DRS, TV Cultura, as well as for the Czech, Polish, Slovenian, Serbian, Hungarian and Chinese TV.
