Federico Longo
conductor
His debuts at the Berlin Philharmonie and at the Sydney Opera House have marked the beginning of Federico Longs’s international career. His relationship with Germany is intense. There, on a permanent basis, he has conducted the Berlin- Brandenburg Kammerphilharmonie in Berlin, he has put on stage important lyrical and symphonic works such as Tchaikovsky’s “Eugen Onegin” and “Dornröschen” directing the Robert Schumann Philharmonie. He has also participated with the Sächsische Kammerphilharmonie in the Wiederaufbaukonzert at the Dresden Frauenkirche. In 2003 he made his debut in the concerts of the Master Series with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, an orchestra with which he has established an important and profitable relationship which has led him to the participation to four editions of the “Shock of the new”, to the “Meet the music” series and to carry out a series of recordings for the ABC. He is a convinced supporter of contemporary music. He has conducted several world premières of symphonic music such as Marco Taralli’s “Lilio Albo” and “Rosa Nigra” at the Auditorium Parco della Musica di Roma and Gordon Kerry’s “Upon an empty air” at the Sydney Opera House, and lyrical operas such as Paolo Furlani’s “Il Vestito nuovo dell’Imperatore” at the eatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and Mario gotto’s “Arcibaldo Sonivari” at the Teatro Pavarotti in Modena; the two works by Marco Betta “Il mistero del finto cantante” (tr’s note: The mystery of the fake singer) and “Che fine ha fatto la piccola Irene” (tr’s note: Whatever happened to little Irene) within the 60th Siena Musical Week. During the 2008 season, he has conducted Flavio Testi’s “Saul” at the Rome Opera Theatre. The production has obtained a unanimous success and the Il Corriere della sera commented on his performance as being “... vibrant and persuasive with a clever and careful conduction”. In May 2004, he created and directed the event “Concert for Ethiopia”, which reached its seventh edition in 2010. This event has been hosted in the most prestigious Roman concert halls. He has recorded for Marc Aurel W.A. Mozart Kv 466 in re minor and Kv 491 in do minor concerts for piano and orchestra and, for GENUIN Lipsia, three Cds with music by C. Ph. E. Bach and F. Mendelssohn Bartoldy. In 2006, for the first Cd with music by C. Ph. E. Bach, he was awarded the prestigious prize “Kaufempfehlung” by Klassikcom. In August 2003 he was the sole winner of the “Boris Christoff” Foundation award. His activity as conductor is carried out in Italy and abroad with orchestras such as: the Orchestra of the Rome Opera Theatre, the Orchestra of the Carlo Felice Theatre in Genoa, the Parma Toscanini Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Kammerphilharmonie Berlin-Brandenburg in Berlin, the Sächsische Kammerphilharmonie and Robert-Schumann-Philarmonie in Chemnitz, Oulu Sinfonia, the Bucarest Radio Orchestra etc. In his education, his cooperation with Gianluigi Gelmetti as his assistant has been fundamental. This has placed him in a position to learn and experiment a large repertory in lyrical and symphonic productions throughout the world (Rome Opera di Roma, Milan-La Scala, London Covent Garden, Frankfurt-Radio Sinfonie Orchester, Munich-Münchner Philharmoniker, Tokyo-NHK, Budapest, Paris, Lyons, Sydney, Melbourne, etc. Federico Longo was born in Rome where he has studied Piano and Orchestration with Robert W.
