Jeonghwan Kim
Piano
Jeonghwan Kim is a versatile musician. Particularly fascinated by modern and contemporary music, he is also active as a composer and has already written several works for various ensembles. In recent years, in addition to his solo career, he has become extensively involved in a number of chamber music ensembles and has performed solo and chamber music concerts at the Philharmonie Berlin, Musikhuset Aarhus, and Laeiszhalle Hamburg.
Jeonghwan Kim is a laureate of numerous international competitions. He received first prizes at the Aarhus International Piano Competition and the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition, where he performed with the Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin in the final round. He has also been a prizewinner at the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition, where he was awarded two special prizes in addition to the third prize. At the Sendai International Music Competition he won the fourth prize and the audience prize.
Born in Seoul in 2000, he received his first piano lessons at the age of six. Since 2011 he has resided in Berlin, where he was taught by Thomas Just until 2016 and participated in master classes with Jacob Leuschner, Bob Versteegh, and Robert Levin. He has received further important artistic inspiration from Stephan Imorde, Konstantin Heidrich, Stephan Forck, and Jonathan Aner. Since 2017 he has been studying at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin in the class of Konrad Maria Engel.
