Adam Mital was born in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1979. A versatile soloist and chamber musician, his concert engagements have taken him to many European countries and abroad. He has appeared as a guest artist at international festivals including, among others, the Lucerne Festival, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the Handel Festival in Halle, and at important music centers such as the KKL Lucerne, Zürich’s Tonhalle, the Cité de la Musique Paris, and the Atheneum in Bucharest, Romania.
He has appeared as a soloist with the Basel Symphony Orchestra, Bach Collegium Musicum Leipzig and the Slovakian Philharmonic, among others, and has made various radio and television recordings with Radio DRS 2, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Radio Classique France, and Mezzo. In Basel he studied solo cello with Reinhard Latzko and chamber music with Gérard Wyss. Mr. Mital also pursued further studies with Miklós Perényi in Budapest, Philippe Muller in Paris, and Frans Helmerson in Cologne, where he earned a solo cello performance degree (Konzertexamen). He has also attended master classes given by János Starker, among others, and gained valuable artistic insight from Christophe Coin.
Adam Mital is an avid performer of chamber music both as a cello-piano duo and with other instrumentalists. His repertoire and interests range from early Baroque work to New Music – for example the composer Richard Dubugnon dedicated the work Folia for cello solo (2007) to him. The CD release Central Europe featuring works by Schubert, Dvořák, Janáček, Martinů and Bartók was released with the MitalTolan Duo.
Adam Mital is an enthusiastic cello teacher and has led a cello class at the music academies in Basel and Riehen since 2020. He is also a composer and founded the Mital-Tolan Benefit Concerts in order to provide support to humanitarian projects.
