The winners of this year's ARD Music Competition have been announced. From 2 to 20 September 2019, the jury selected the best musicians in the subjects bassoon, violoncello, clarinet and percussion. A first prize was awarded in three of the four categories. There were also six second and three third prizes. Numerous special prizes and scholarships were also awarded. These include the GENUIN Special Prize, which this year goes to Joë Christophe, first prize winner in the clarinet category - personally selected by the GENUIN sound masters. The young clarinettist will thus receive support for a CD production which is expected to be released by GENUIN classics in autumn 2020.
Born in France in 1994, Joë Christophe studied at the Paris Conservatory with Philippe Berrod. Under the direction of Michel Moraguès, he is currently completing his master's degree in chamber music. He has already won several competitions, including the Festival Musical d'Automne des Jeunes Interprètes 2017 and the 1st prize of the Safran Foundation for Music 2018. He has performed with orchestras such as the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestra of the Opéra de Limoges, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire and as a soloist with the Pasdeloup Orchestra, the Orchestre de Chambre Nouvelle Europe Chamber Orchestra and the Musique de la Police Nationale. Christophe is passionate about jazz, contemporary and oriental music and is part of the Klezmer ensemble Sirba Octet.
