Prizewinners of the Bach Competition 2018: GENUIN to produce recording with violinist Maia

With a festive prizewinners’ concert, the XXI International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition 2018 in Leipzig came to a close on Saturday. The Bach Prizewinner 2018 distinction was awarded in three instrumental categories to nine young musicians from eight countries.

GENUIN classics also selected a winner: in addition to Second Prize in the violin category, violinist Maia Cabeza received the GENUIN Special Prize as well. This award entails a CD production that will be released as part of the Bach Competition Edition.

The prizewinners:

Piano:
1st Prize: Rachel Naomi Kudo (USA)
2nd Prize: Arash Rokni (Iran)
3rd Prize: Jonathan Ferrucci (Australia/Italy)

Harpsichord:
1st Prize: Avinoam Shalev (Israel)
2nd Prize: Andrew Rosenblum (USA)
3rd Prize: Anastasia Antonova (Russia)

Violin/Baroque violin:
1st Prize: Maria Włoszczowska, Violin (Poland)
2nd Prize: Maia Cabeza, Violin (USA/Canada)
3rd Prize: Hed Yaron Meyerson, Baroque violin (Germany/Israel)

Bach Prizewinners have been named at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig since 1950. GENUIN has already released the debut CDs of five Bach Prizewinners from recent years:

The next competition, the XXII International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition Leipzig, will be held from July 13-25, 2020 in the categories of organ, voice, and cello/baroque cello.
