Yesterday evening marked the successful conclusion of the International ARD Music Competition in Munich. GENUIN was there on location during the different rounds of the competition, and among the finalists, selected 26-year-old pianist Fabian Müller for the GENUIN Special Prize. Following soprano Emalie Savoy in 2015 and the Aris Quartet last year, Fabian Müller has been awarded the 2017 GENUIN Special Prize, which entails a CD production to be released with GENUIN classics in the ARD Music Competition Edition. The young pianist won over the jury in the final round with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor.
Born in Bonn, Fabian Müller began playing the piano at the age of four. The young pianist’s exceptional talent was recognized early on and confirmed with numerous first prizes at Germany’s national “Jugend Musiziert” competition, followed soon afterward by further awards, including the Ibach Award and special awards of the German Foundation for Musical Life and Jürgen Ponto Foundation.
Müller began his studies at the age of fifteen at the Cologne University of Music with Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich. After winning further awards at competitions including the Prix amadéo de piano in Aachen, he drew international acclaim as a prizewinner at the 2013 Ferrucio Busoni International Piano Competition, where he was honored with the International Press Award, Special Prize for the best interpretation of a work by Ferrucio Busoni, and Special Prize for an interpretation of contemporary piano music.
Since then he has performed solo recitals at many renowned festivals, including the Musikwoche Hitzacker, Musikfestspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Heiderger Frühling, and Aldeburgh Festival in England. Concert engagements have brought him to the Philharmonie Köln, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Berlin Konzerthaus, Glocke Bremen, and Herkulessaal in Munich. He gave his debut with the Deutsche Streicher-Philharmonie under Michael Sanderling and has performed with the hr-Sinfonieorchester, WDR Sinfonieorchester, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, and other ensembles.
