The jury of the ICMA international music prize recognized the Dinorah Varsi “Legacy” box as an “outstanding music production”.
The Dinorah Varsi “Legacy” box will receive the 2016 Special Award from the international music prize ICMA on April 2016 in San Sebastian. The International Classical Music Award is an independent, international music prize for video and sound recordings. In 2016 it will be presented for the 6th time. The jury consists of 16 members, who represent media from 14 different countries.
The Dinorah Varsi “Legacy” box was released by the Leipzig Label GENUIN on November 6th, 2015, and drew worldwide attention. The 2016 ICMA Special Award goes to an opulent, extensive and very carefully compiled edition that documents the artistic creativity of Uruguayan pianist Dinorah Varsi (1939-2013) from 1945-2004. Her virtuosic and distinctive sound is moving both through its musical power and intense expression. There is an abundance of previously undisclosed live and studio recordings to discover in the box. The edition is a musical tribute to a great pianist and honors a musician who adhered to her own interpretative values throughout her life. “I was always true to myself,” she once said, “it wasn’t easy, but it was the only way I could play.”
