GENUIN recording group at "Ode to Joy" Flash Mob in Nuremberg

Members of the Nuremberg Philharmonic and the Hans Sachs Choir gathered together on 14 June 2014 in front of the Lorenzkirche in Nuremberg, encouraging passers-by to participate in a flash mob at which everyone sang the "Ode to Joy" from the fourth movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.

At 2:00 PM a girl started playing the theme of the "Ode to Joy" on the flute. A double bassist took up the theme, then other orchestra members joined in and continued the Ode together - to the surprise of the Nuremberg passers-by, who gathered round the musicians. The spectacle was perfect when the Hans Sachs Choir also began singing the "Freude schöner Götterfunken" and encouraged the spectators to sing along.

The flash mob was sponsored and organised by the Evenord-Bank eG-KG. The GENUIN recording group was responsible for the good sound on the video that you can see here:

The "Ode to Joy" has been the official hymn of the European Union since 1972. It stands for the unity of Europe in its variety, as well as the common values of freedom, peace and solidarity shared by all the members of the European Union.
