It is the only instrument that is played without direct physical contact: the theremin. The tone is produced when the soloist moves both hands in the magnetic field between two antennas; the theremin then reacts to the electromagnetic field of the body. Although Leon Theremin invented the instrument almost 100 years ago, it has so far been relegated to a niche existence. Carolina Eyck, one of the world's most sought-after thereminists, produces a CD for theremin and piano on GENUIN together with her duo partner Christopher Tarnow.
The two Leipzig musicians Carolina Eyck and Christopher Tarnow have been playing music together for about a year. They recorded a CD in New York with improvisations for theremin and piano which will be released this year by the US label Butterscotch Records.
The pianist Christopher Tarnow studied sound engineering in Detmold and composition in Leipzig, and is active as a freelance sound engineer for GENUIN.
