Cello goes East!
Runge and Ammon play Russian repertoire
After the sensational success of their tango CD, which was released with GENUIN in 2008, Eckart Runge and Jacques Ammon—otherwise known as “cello project”— set out on a voyage to the Wild East. The souvenirs they’ve returned with include not only some of the wonderfully melancholic and passionate works by Rachmaninoff, with guaranteed pangs... As if that were not enough, the two have also brought back new scenes from Moscow’s long boulevards and the deep and inscrutable Russian soul: music by the intense, funny and tragic Nikolai Kapustin, including the world premiere of his outstanding second cello sonata. Soulful sighs and hot rhythms, Central Park and Red Square, it all coincides on this disc... tremendous!
"...modern, fast-paced, torrid and always highly emotional!"
Rondo 3/2010
"Eckart Runge and Jacques Ammon perform with an uncannily assured sense of ensemble, elegantly, with soul. Runge’s refined and flexible tone and his velvety smooth top range stay in your memory. His cello tone caresses the ear. Ammon plays with virtuoso brilliance and verve."
