The Sonus Quintett is Germany's first reed quintet, consisting of clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon. This unusual combination of woodwind instruments allows for imaginative and airy sounds beautifully showcased on the ensemble's GENUIN debut album. The program includes the quintet’s own transcriptions and the original composition "Refraction" by David Biedenbinder from 2015. The album title "Light" is reflected in various ways in the works: Gershwin's "An American in Paris," Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," and Grieg's famous "Air" from the "Holberg" Suite.

Schabel Kultur-Blog
"...selbst die bekanntesten Werke der Musikgeschichte bekommen eine neue Klangfärbung, die die Interpretationen des Sonus Quintetts so außergewöhnlich klingen lässt. [...] Drei Kompositionen aus drei verschiedenen Musikepochen überraschen in neuer Tonalität." Review by Michaela Schabel, October 30, 2024

textura
"[...] showcase its distinctive sound on this very appealing collection. It's always exciting to hear established works revived with imaginative new arrangements, and it's especially rewarding when they're executed with the kind of enthusiasm Sonus Quintett brings to these performances." Review published October 23, 2024

Klassik heute
"The highly committed ensemble throws itself full of verve into the complex score and makes listening a pleasure for all those who do not shy away from the occasional sharp dissonance." (about the work Refraction) Review by Prof. Klaus Trapp, October 16, 2024

Pizzicato
"[...] incredibly imaginative and bold transcription of Gershwin’s An American in Paris. [...] With the Air from Grieg’s Holberg Suite you can admire the high standard of the quintet and its imaginative arrangers Raaf Hekkema and Lena Iris Brendel (Beethoven)." Review by Remy Franck, October 04, 2024
