Wenn ich ein Vöglein wär
As 1st prize winner of the 2022 ARD Music Competition, the Barbican Quartet is one of the most sought-after young string quartet formations. The internationally composed ensemble is now releasing its debut album on GENUIN: "Manifesto on Love", with works by Leoš Janácek and Robert Schumann. The contrast between Schumann's expansive musical lines and Janácek’s nervous surfaces and ecstatic outbursts could not be greater – yet the Barbican Quartet unites them as expressions of human need for love, for togetherness. Two works of the most intimate musical genre played at a phenomenal level!

"The playing is breathtakingly magnificent. And with Schumann's "Wenn ich ein Vöglein wär", the quartet concludes this equally award-winning album simply marvellously - and with heartfelt singing." Review by Guido Fischer, August 03, 2024

BR-Klassik
"[...] ...the four also play Schumann's third string quartet brilliantly. The Barbicans turn the slow third movement into the musical epitome of romantic longing, which repeatedly leads them into darkness and abysses." Review by Oswald Beaujean, June 14, 2024
June 12, 2024: The album received the Supersonic Award from Pizzicato.
Pizzicato
"You can sense that the profound emotional portrayals in the two quartets come to the Barbican Quartet as if from real life and that they use them to create their own experiences in sound. In doing so, they sensitively open themselves up to the music and offer exhilarating, sometimes even a little boiling interpretations that cannot leave you cold." Review by Uwe Krusch, June 12, 2024
NDR Kultur - Der Sonntag
"The interpretation is gripping. [...] The ensemble shows a clear signature: with the very individual sound, with the emotional interpretations, but also with the program." Marcus Stäbler chose 'Manifesto on Love' as the album of the week, June 9, 2024
