Who is better suited to perform piano trios by an entire handful of great, young composers than a young ensemble? It is an added bonus that the Monte Piano Trio, although its members are barely older than students, have ranked among the best in the world for the past decade. The debut CD by Francesco Sica, Claude Frochaux and Irina Botan is almost a small revelation: who already knows the trios of Lili Boulanger or John Ireland, which are placed next to works by Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff and Mahler. For chamber music fans: young music and great maturity!
Pizzicato
"In their program of early works by composers from various countries, the very cohesive Monte Piano Trio shows a deep understanding of the music, so that the character of each piece is well defined."

MusicWeb International
"This is a fascinating disc that presents us with five highly original works from five composers who, at the time of writing, were developing their art."

American Record Guide
"A finely played program of youthful music"

Fanfare
"What makes the current release so desirable, besides the excellent playing of the Monte Trio, is its gathering of works that mostly serve as fillers on other CDs. Hearing what was going through the minds of these five young composers is like a snapshot of Europe as the twilight of Romanticism descended. There’s ripeness in all of this music, whatever the age of the creators. Good, natural recorded sound, done at a low volume level."
