Once upon a time … there was a wonderful era in which composers were not divided into those who wrote folk music and others who created art music. After this period, composers have continually tried to restore a connection between these two worlds. And the Duo Escarlata does its best to support these efforts on its GENUIN debut CD with the instrumental combination of violoncello (Daniela Hunziker) and accordion (Ina Hofmann). Martinů's little gems sound as if they came from a Bohemian dance floor, Schumann's Pieces in Folk Style are of a childlike beauty and Dvořák's Polonaise skilfully alternates between rustic and refined: the music is sensual, witty and affectionate.
