10 Years of GENUIN classics – the Leipzig Classical Label Celebrates Its Anniversary

During the past ten years, GENUIN classics has developed from an insider tip amongst musicians and music lovers into an established independent label for classical music.
In the year 2013 the label will be celebrating its 10th anniversary, looking back on 250 exciting CD publications in their wide-ranging catalogue which has been highly praised by the specialist press and the musical world. Numerous GENUIN CDs have received coveted awards such as the Diapason d’Or and the ECHO Klassik as well as nominations for the Grammy Award and the Midem Classical Award / ICMA.

The repertoire comprises the most varied genres ranging from the Renaissance to New Music, from piano solo to orchestral music. Particularly intensive is the dedication of GENUIN classics to up-and-coming talents: young, prize-winning ensembles such as the Duo Arp Frantz, the Amaryllis Quartet (winners of the ECHO Klassik 2012) and the Leibniz Trio are represented in our catalogue, as are internationally known musicians such as the pianist Paul Badura-Skoda, the cellist Nicolas Altstaedt and the oboist Ramón Ortega Quero.

Six special editions have meanwhile emerged out of this intensive collaboration with the musicians. From the very beginning, these have included the very special recordings with Paul Badura-Skoda in the Edition select. The movimentos edition issues recordings with outstanding musicians selected together with the Movimentos Festival of the Auto City of Wolfsburg. Recordings with the prize winners of the annual German Music Competition appear in the Primavera edition. Unknown but outstanding new and premiere recordings from the 19th and 20th centuries are found in the Edition Un!erhört. The Edition Dresdner Philharmonie releases concert recordings with the orchestra and the Edition Artist Consort offers a platform for established Swiss musicians who develop CDs according to their own conceptions in close collaboration with the label.
