The Pakistani newspaper Dawn writes about Robert Aust’s piano playing: “The dexterity and the consuming passion with which he played the notes left the audience spellbound.” The pianist was awarded a scholarship at the 2012 German Music Competition and has established himself both as a sought-after soloist (Orquesta Sinfónica de El Salvador, Orquesta Sinfónica UANL México) and as a chamber music partner and lied accompanist.
Robert Aust is passionate about teaching and holds a position at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. He himself studied with Matthias Kirschnereit (Rostock) and Heidi Köhler (Hanover). As an adventure enthusiast, he particularly enjoys climbing volcanoes.
The Duo Aust featuring siblings Bettina Aust and Robert Aust is one of the world’s leading ensembles for clarinet and piano. Concert recordings presented by all major German radio broadcasters offer testimony of the duo’s more than twenty-year-long collaboration. In 2016 the siblings’ first CD was released to great acclaim on the GENUIN classics label.
One of the special focuses of the Duo Aust is on intercultural musical projects. In recent years the duo has undertaken concert tours to Latin America, North Africa, and the Middle East, worked with local musicians and composers, and given master classes at local music academies.
